    Colonel Morgan Jones built many railroad lines across Texas including the Wichita Valley Ry/RR, Abilene & Northern Ry, Abilene & Southern Ry and others. However, his work and efforts in helping build the Transcontinental Railroad is what set him on the path to becoming Texas' great railroad magnate.

    The Greater Houston Train Show is (traditionally) held every third Saturday in February. It features Model & Photo Contests, Operating Layouts, Clinics, and Vendors from all over the Southwest. Adults and Youth are $5 with kids under 12 are free. Max $10 per family will be charged.

Community Education

TEXAS OPERATION LIFESAVER

Texas Operation Lifesaver spent their time in Abilene, Texas with Union Pacific Railroad this last August providing their popular R.I.S.C. Program to local law enforcement and first responders. The current operator of the remaining portions of the ole' Wichita Valley tracks, Southern Switching Company, provided a locomotive for onsite training.

Missouri Pacific Railroad Coach No. 6184

Local Merkel Citizen Moves a Tye, Texas railroading symbol, Missouri Pacific Railroad Coach No. 6184, to Merkel, Texas beginning renovations to turn it into a trackside diner. Soon you will be able to eat a 50's style burger while watching the trains roll on by.

New Photos Added to the Corrender Taylor Collection

The Wichita Valley's very own National Delegate has recently been busy scanning a portion of his collection this past weekend. Many of the photos and negatives scanned in this bunch date from the 1940's and 1950's. Be sure to check them out for research or for your own personal enjoyment.
